Every year our participants and parents jump in and help out wherever it is needed to help make KidzMash an amazing place to be. This year we would like to organize that effort in advance as much as possible (though please jump in at any time!). We really do need your help to keep the littles occupied and the staff sane(ish).
So, if you have a few hours to spare during your time at Kalahari or are planning to be with us helping out anyway, then please email us with your information and availability at kidzmash@codemash.org. You will be rewarded with the eternal gratitude of the KidzMash staff and the adoration of all the geeks and geeklings.
Volunteer opportunities include (but are probably not limited to) the following areas:
- KidzMash Sessionz: This will involve setting up the room for the needs of the speaker (aka moving chairs around), announcing the speaker, moving chatty parentz into Hangoutz (we all have been guilty), and marking attendee badges.
- KidzMash Hangoutz: This mostly involves…hanging out. We would like to have this space open and monitored from 8am – 8pm. Duties will include keeping an eye on toys/books/games, trying to keep geekling littlez from being run over by geekling bigz, and replenishing supplies.
- KidzMash Open Spacez: The same as Sessionz except there will not be a schedule of speakers in advance of the conference.
- COSI Tabletopz: COSI is bringing 10 tabletop experiments / builds to run simultaneously on Friday from 10am – 230pm. They are sending an educator with all the supplies and instructions. We need to have an adult (perhaps paired with an older kid) at each table to help attendees, replenish supplies as needed and monitor the equipment. The educator will be there to assist as needed.
All of these opportunities will have written processes for the volunteer as well as contact information for the KidzMash staff for items that need to be brought to us.
